Vienna, 5 August 2026 – One weekend, three art events: From 9 to 13 September 2026, Astoria Artshow, curated byand PARALLEL Vienna will showcase the diversity of Vienna’s local and international art scene. Visitors will experience the full spectrum of contemporary art – from established positions to exciting next-generation discoveries. Each of the three events has its own distinctive profile. Together, they complement one another and establish Vienna as an attractive and diverse new destination on the international art calendar in the second week of September.

PARALLEL Vienna: A total art experience

PARALLEL Vienna opens on Wednesday, 9 September 2026, across four historic buildings at the Otto Wagner Areal, marking the start of Vienna’s art weekend. Since 2013, the fair has pursued an experimental approach: reimagining conventional artfair structures in architecturally distinctive temporary-use spaces and exploring new ways of presenting contemporary art.

Until 13 September, more than 130 exhibitors will activate the venue. They include galleries from nine countries, independent art projects, institutions and the ARTIST STATEMENTS, which will present solo exhibitions by 30 selected emerging artists. In 2026, the fair will introduce a gallery cluster featuring 17 selected galleries in the impressive Jugendstil theater. A new dedicated section for editions and photography will occupy the entire upper floor of the former kitchen building. The ground floor of the former industrial kitchen will host a special exhibition devoted to Eat Art. Entitled “PARALLEL KITCHEN,” it will function simultaneously as an exhibition, a working kitchen and a social meeting place. The 14th edition will also feature an extensive public program – from Wednesday’s opening party and culinary concepts by Mochi to the major OstLicht photography auction on Sunday.

“PARALLEL Vienna is a hybrid of an art fair, a pop-up museum and a social hub. As a curated exhibition landscape, it brings together Austrian and international galleries, emerging and established artistic positions, innovative special exhibitions and extraordinary performances. PARALLEL is the elephant in Vienna’s art circus!”, Stefan Bidner, Artistic Director of PARALLEL Vienna.

ASTORIA ARTSHOW: The preview edition of a new Viennese Art Fair

From 10 to 13 September 2026, the new Astoria Artshow will open its doors at the historic Astoria Garage – an architectural gem dating from 1923 that will be used as the venue for a major cultural event for the first time. Across four levels and more than 10,000 square meters of exhibition space, 70 Austrian and international galleries will each present one highlight from their program. Rather than being displayed in conventional fair booths, the works will be placed in dialogue with one another throughout the building’s expansive, light-filled spaces and arranged according to purely aesthetic considerations. The result is a striking overall composition that, at the same time, invites visitors to acquire the individual works on display.

The Astoria Artshow thus introduces an exceptional and innovative format: a focused showcase that places quality, ambition and innovation at its core.

“It is clear that the traditional art fair model has reached its limits and needs to be reimagined. The Astoria Artshow gives us an opportunity to explore new approaches in a playful way, with the aim of developing them into a major, centrally located international art fair in Vienna next year. In this sense, the Astoria Artshow marks a modest beginning to an ambitious undertaking—one that we hope will succeed in the long term and, together with curated by and PARALLEL Vienna, provide lasting momentum for Vienna as an international art destination. -  Markus Peichl, Chairman of VAU Vienna Art United, organizer of the Astoria Artshow

CURATED BY: Celebrating the diversity of Vienna’s galleries

Under the theme LOVE, curated by begins on 11 September and invites visitors into selected galleries across Vienna. The festival exhibition format places the diversity of Vienna’s gallery landscape at its center. From 11 to 13 September, participating galleries will open different exhibitions curated by internationally invited curators responding to and present curated exhibitions interpreting the theme of LOVE from a range of artistic perspectives. Free admission makes curated by widely accessible to art enthusiasts and underlines the festival’s democratic approach.

“Curated by is thrilled to share its opening weekend with strong initiatives such as Astoria Artshow and PARALLEL Vienna. Over the years, curated by has earned an international reputation through the quality of its program and the distinctive nature of its format: a gallery-led festival that gives international curators the time, space and resources to create and strengthen new connections while fostering critical discourse. Together with these initiatives, the festival and its galleries are expanding their commitment to experimentation and artistic expression, reaffirming Vienna’s role as a cultural destination.” - Attilia Fattori Franchini and Christina Linher, Directors of curated by.
